The Mwarusi Believe program invests in girls from 12 to 15 and empowers them to envision a better future through education. By being an example in their communities they are fostering a new role for girls and women caring for the society.

University students are mentored by the girlmovers and get trained in leadership and mentorship. As they become role models to the young mwarusis, they also design a more impactful future path.

The CHANGE program leverages young Mozambican female talent, in a 1 year intensive and experiential program, developing the necessary skills to lead in this complex and constantly changing world.

“Awakening, freedom, faith, self-love, confidence, own voice, gathering hands and be the change. That’s how I sum up my experience at Girl MOVE Academy. It’s more than a life experience. It’s a way of living. I know now, that we women can do whatever we want, if we don’t ever stop believing and leading our own path with hope, love, joy and lots of hard work!”

“Lead was a light at the end of the tunnel in a darkness time of my life. It was the foundation that helped me discover and enhance my self esteem, self confidence and to recall the real purpose in life: to love, to forgive, to give myself to others and impact lives. Today, I know that I am useful I know that I am not only just one more person. I know that it starts in me the difference to build a better world and today, I am making a difference in the life’s of my Mwarusis.”

LEVELINHA ADELINO | LEAD MENTOR

“The “manas” (Portuguese caring way of saying sisters) are my inspiration to continue studying and believing in myself. I believe now that I can go further, and I know that education is the path. I learned my rights, the importance of going to school, and I feel more confident to become the woman I wish to be.”

Being a Girl MOVER is being able to take risks, pursue your dreams and goals and, even when you fall (or fail), you stand up, shake and rise again. Today, I’m Pedagogical Director and Coordinator of the Masters in Biology at Gorongosa National Park, the biggest Nature Conservation project in Mozambique. I’m a Girl MOVER and Obama Foundation Leaders Fellow.
