CHALLENGE UPDATES
KICK-OFF
1, 2, 3 IGNITE!
In April, Girl MOVERS had their first Changemaker LAB session and started the kickoff. In a meeting in our academy in Nampula, they got to know the 7 challenges for 2021, the work teams, and the facilitators, tutors and partners they can count on during the process. The urgency on providing answers to the current community challenges was reinforced, and for an effective change, the key is local talent. Given the starting point, the first learning was Design Thinking focused on the human being and its process: empathize ; define; ideate; prototype and test. After getting to know the results of Changemaker LAB 2020 and watching the experiences shared by Girl MOVERS Alumni, it’s 1, 2, 3 IGNITE ! Our Girl MOVERS are ready to go and more motivated than ever.
THE PROBLEM TREE
PROBLEM ANALYSIS
The Problem Tree Analysis was the tool chosen by our Girl MOVERS to structure their challenge. Here, they built a shared comprehension of the challenge questions, purpose, action and goal. This was the perfect baseline to define the team’s next steps.
FIRST WORKSHOP
WORKSHOP WATER & SANITATION
After mapping the 20 families, 10 from Marrere communities and other 10 from the Pedreira community, Girl MOVERS adapted the SUSAMATI methodology to the context of Nampula City. For that, they studied the sanitation situation of some of the neighbourhoods and schools of the city.
The first Awareness Workshop happened with the Mwarusis – young girls from the 7th grade – at the Marrere School, and it was about Hygiene, Sanitation and Water (WASH).
TRAINING CATÓLICA UNIVERSITY
KICK-OFF
To kick off Changemaker LAB, several training sessions were offered by CATÓLICA University of Portugal about Social Innovation and Sustainable Development. Girl MOVERS learned about the foundations of Social Innovation, the Global Agenda for Grassroots Changemakers, Societal Problem Analysis and Systemic Change.
TRAINING LISBON DIGITAL SCHOOL
TRAINING BUSINESS MODEL CANVAS WITH LISBON DIGITAL SCHOOL
Lisbon Digital School’s trainer Glauco Madeira shared with the Girl MOVERS the concept of the Business Model Canvas with a practical exercise of the construction of their challenge model.
TRAINING UNIVERSIDADE CATÓLICA
DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR IMPACT WITH THE CATÓLICA UNIVERSITY OF PORTUGAL
CATÓLICA University of Portugal offered 3 training sessions for solution s definition to make the Girl MOVER’s challenges even more impactful.
Training Sessions: Innovative Business Models, Impact Assessment and Entrepreneurial Marketing.
TRAINING SESSION WITH SUSAMATI
MAPPING THE CONDITIONS OF SANITATION IN THE COMMUNITY WITH SUSAMATI
SUSAMATI was created by a Mozambican social entrepreneur, bringing responses to the sanitation challenges in Mozambique – like the ‘Pia Fantástica’, for example, an ecologic toilet. To better understand Nampula reality, SUSAMATI trained Girl MOVERS with a model for mapping sanitation conditions, already tested in Maputo. The idea is, after getting to know the field, to design an implementation plan for the ‘pia fantástica’ in Nampula.
MAPPING
VISIT TO THE FIELD FOR MAPPING
Girl MOVERS mapped the conditions of hygiene and sanitation of the neighborhoods of Marrere and Pedreira in Nampula. At the same time, they have been preparing awareness sessions about WASH with the Mwarusis of the BELIEVE Program in the schools of Pedreira and Marrere.
